HOW IT ALL BEGAN
Matt Rocheleau spent his youth on the waters of Cape Cod fishing and digging for clams in Falmouth’s Great Pond.
He Turned His Passion Into A Small Business
When he realized that the demand for fresh clams was high, he turned his passion into a small business, bringing his sought-after catches to Boston’s famous fish pier and to a handful of Cape Cod’s local restaurants including the beloved Chart Room.
Soon after humbling beginnings, Matt met Sue and fell in love. They took their young family to Chatham, Massachusetts, where the clams were bountiful and offered the highest quality in all of New England. Matt bought a refrigerated truck, enlisted the business skills of his new bride and The Clam Man was born.
THE CLAM MAN TODAY
Four kids and two decades later, Sue and Matt are still the heart and soul of The Clam Man.
A Multitude Of Well-refrigerated Trucks Deliver The Company’s Fresh Seafood
Four kids and two decades later, Sue and Matt are still the heart and soul of The Clam Man. A multitude of well-refrigerated trucks deliver the company’s fresh seafood to restaurants seven days a week. This volume, coupled with the daily catches, allow for fresh seafood of a wide variety to be housed daily in the retail store. Matt works hard behind the impeccably clean glass counters, unless he steps to the front to greet customers with his signature booming voice and a smile. He can locate any fish, from anywhere in the world, on a day’s notice. When his kids are home, they work behind the counter, cutting fish or making deliveries. Sue spends her days managing the business, working side by side with staff and clients to ensure that all needs are met. Customer feedback is tantamount to the Clam Man’s success, and the family takes pride in its reputation
Matt and his son Marc are not the only friendly faces at the Clam Man
The staff is well-trained and knowledgeable about daily catches and the abundance of seafood available. Their confidence, patience and desire to make customers happy reflect the values of the Rocheleau family. From storing seafood to preparing, from understanding the difference between fish types to offering amounts to purchase for guests and family, the staff accommodates all customer needs.
In addition to seeing the owners daily, customers who walk into The Clam Man notice the high level of cleanliness and state of the art equipment.
Each year the Rocheleau family invests in upgrades to the facility
and adds more store products to help customers with one-stop shopping. And shellfish is purchased six days a week. The store offers delectable French breads from the local bakery, produce such as corn, potatoes and strawberries from a local partner, lobster salad and other accompaniments made in-house, and a range of sauces and spices to round out your dinner.
